This is why children, even smart children like Annie shouldn’t be watching shows, reading newspapers or listening to the radio about issues like that. I’m an adult and even I can’t deal with theses issues. I think I need a hug and ice cream. When I was Annie’s age all I was worried about were the Soviets going to kidnap me and make me communist. Either that or nuke the U.S. That’s the sad part about kids today, they can’t deal with simple down to Earth issues like that.
“No country has stood down on its nuclear weapons stock. None.”I agree with everything else you wrote but this isn’t true. Many nations have ramped down or dismantled their nuclear programs, esp. those of the former Soviet Empire: Ukraine, Kazakhstan, etc.The current administration, through the NNSA, has been very effective in securing nukes in countries like South Africa and Chile.See http://nnsa.energy.gov/aboutus/ourprograms/nonproliferation
Think about it – most kids her age haven’t even heard about Cheney or the TV doctor. Before we critique, we must at least be aware of those that are in the spotlight.

And she should be taught to not trust Dick Cheney about anything. He’s not in on such briefings anymore.

Two people Annie should be smart enough not to pay any attention to, Cheney and Oz.

I think the point here is that despite her imperfections, Lila is a kick-ass mom.
