Reminds me of Las Posadas which they do in my area. As I understand it, if you want to participate, then you’re part of the “show”. A group of people (and sometimes a burro), representing Joseph and Mary, will go door to door in the neighborhood. They get turned away several times until finally someone agrees to let them stay. There’s also singing, and it’s all in Spanish. There might also be tamales and biscochitos.
