The greatest, noblest thing about Watterson, to me, is that he never ‘sold out.’ He never allowed Calvin and Hobbes to be merchandised ad nauseum like so many other cartoon creations. His skirmishes with the syndicate over this issue were the stuff of legend.

Ugh…! That is so rude! Bill’s painting now, and he likes the way it allows him to work at his own pace.
