Un-huh. I can see how little Monti would want to escape any confusion with that other Monty….

Oooh, he’s actually called Monty Montahue!    I always thought “Monty” was a nickname based on his last name, Montahue.

I take some pride in the fact that I pointed out that ants were mostly female in a comment quite some time ago.

Laurie used to be a boy’s name, short for Lawrence.

Ah yes…. Laurie….at 9 or 10 I was madly if unwisely in love with a boy named Laurie…. Unwisely because he was fictional, and anyway HE loved Jo March.

But though giving baby girls unisex or “male” names has grown in popularity, it’s not entirely new… Over the years I’ve had female friends or relatives called (by their parents) Kelly, Michael, Courtney, Tommy, Tracy, Sam, and Theo… though he last two were nicknames for longer feminine names. And guys with every one of those names… plus a Carol and and Evelyn, family legacies from when those were strictly men’s names too.

ALL born before 1950 or so.

Mother-in-law was Dale. Her brother was Jim. Their father wanted a son but only had daughters so he gave them all boys names
