Back from the barbaric feast with your family, I see... I didn't need any turkey. Don't worry. I don't trust you... Let me smell your breath... Sniff sniff Somehow, surprisingly, you pass. I sucked on a slab of tofu on the drive back...
Ugh! What a sacrifice, Moonie, just to please your freaky housebird! Tofu can be disguised to taste almost like real food, but not when it’s still just a “slab”!
I think parrots can smell their food. Back when I still drank coffee, Cuddles always wanted a sip (even though she shouldn’t) and it WAS about 1/2 cream. She could tell when it was starting to turn even before the point where it was separating in the hot liquid (would not drink any then).
I tried tofu in my vegetarian year (2013) but gave up on it really ever tasting good. The only substitute that was OK is TVP sausage bits in my pasta bowl (but I also use sliced garlic and sunflower seeds).
AND, I was just thinking -I don’t know why Pilsner would mind. Doesn’t he eat any meat? Cuddle’s favorite food was my clam chowder (and she fished out the little baby clams and chewed them happily.
She also enjoyed chicken salad when I had it. Somewhere I have a photo of her eating that. She ate very daintily though. And most birds eat eggs in some form (she liked scrambled) and deluxe bird seed that I used to buy for canaries had dried bits of egg yolk.
All I can think of when Pilsner smelled Moondog’s breathe – Moondog should be grateful he doesn’t have a cat. A cat will open your mouth and stick its head in as far as it can – because smelling AND seeing tells the tale.

Actually, anybody can pass the sniff test from a parrot as birds have no sense of smell.
