Radio was so grand – I have Direct TV and one of the benefits are a number of ‘music’ channels which are jut wall to wall music. One of the channels is an all 40’s station. They had stuff like the old Bing Crosby show - which they play in its entirety. Also - they include an hourly news report of the top news stories for that day in a particular year. On days with specific historic significance - they play all of the tunes which were in the top ten on that day - plus actual radio broadcasts. For example, on December 7, they play all of the news and music which was actually on the air when the news reports about the attack on Pearl Harbor began to filter in. We all get so involved in what is going on on the 40’s radio channel - that we frequently forget to turn the TV on at all! There is also a local radio station which has been broadcasting a lot of the old radio shows - like Fibber McGee and Molly. It all turned out to be an astonishing ratings success! Come to think of it - I enjoy Mutt and Jeff because the classic has been retained - people who try to bring the classics into this century by re-writing them are just robbing themselves of the real charm which the original had!
