The term “ice box” remained in use for years after electric refrigerators came into being. A true ice box was literally a box one had to place ice in one part, food in another to keep the food cool until the ice melted. (no model had a freezer compartment)
When REA came to the area, and people got refrigerators, the ice-boxes were hauled off to the ditch. Bad move – they are now worth hundreds in antique shops!
I like the line about female,guess we’re lucky he didn’t say bitch. There was a case not long ago in my state where two breeders sued over the ownership of a female dog. At one point one of the men stood up and pointed to the dog in question and yelled that bitch is mine.
@brklnbern. Word has it that our beloved Governor Goodhair (Perry to outsiders) recently repremanded an aide for referring to a dog as a bitch. The aide was shocked and asked if Perry had never heard the word before. To which the gov replied, “Yes, but never in reference to a dog.”

And many still call refrigerators “Frigidaires” as that was one of the first makers of refrigerators.
