Not a high grade variety, like TNT mind you ;it was the propellant for automobile airbags. ( the makers have since switched to something less volatile. )
One thing I noticed very quickly is that when you’re driving a truck with ‘Explosives’ placards, other drivers DON’T try to beat you at four-way stops, cut you off, or speed up when you signal for a lane change.
A puzzle book I had as a kid included a brain teaser about a truck stuck under the bridge – and the solution was to deflate the tires, drive through, and somehow reinflate them.
Similar story in West Quincy, Mo. in 1973 where US 24 goes under the railroad. The area flooded, and after the water went down, the underpass was pumped out.First truck through wedged!Seems the bridge was OK, but the pavement had heaved!Since then, US 24 goes OVER the tracks.

In the first panel, Mutt has a puffed-up ego; in the last panel, he’s being deflated. Poetic.
