Yeah, ML, What I tell the youngsters when they say “it’’s been such a slow week.”. Wait til you’re where I am, you’ll wish you could slow the clock down a little.
The way to handle it is to keep a bit of “child” in your heart, without getting childish. Secondly, hang on to the memories. I enjoy pulling them up when things are quiet.
Talking of memories………our youngest son is going to be married in July…….and they have asked us for pictures of him in significant stages of his life. Well………………I just spent 2 days going through boxes of photos, and I’ve been reliving all kinds of memories!!!!!! Where DOES the time go!!!???
MontanaLasy: Life is like a river. It just keeps on flrowing until it reaches whe ever it is meant for. All one can do is try to avoid getting caught up in an eddy…. And like a river it will have rocks and snag, and if you remember this and expect it to happen (hopefully seldom), you shoud be more prepared when something happens.
What I do is imagine possible scenarios. and how I would respond to them. It’s a way to meet the surprises in and almost automatic reaction. It does work, I can attest to that!
Montana Lady My wife and I ask the same question all the time. We have been married for 571/2 years and our son just had his 30th anniversary our oldest daughter will have her 29th in July and our youngest daughter just had her 22nd. Our oldest grandson is getting married in Sept. Like Slim says, life is just like going down a river ubtill we come to the end.
And as you learn (I hope) the vagaries of the river of Life, the waters become gentler, wider, but does flow on relemtlessly.. S.o, be safe. Be your own good person, for you do judge others by your ways,.
Good Morning, VagaBonds….Slim and Woodworker…..it’s a pleasure to read your comments! We are coming up on our 47th anniversary in August, and only 2 of our 4 kids are (will be) married. It’s soooooo funny to see them gently grow older, while of course, My Mountain Man and I NEVER age!!!!! Hee Hee
We’re coming up on our 28th anniversary in November. We got a late start – in our 30’s. I remember when my parents had their 60th anniversary in 2005, both of my brothers and their wives and Michael & I took them out to a really nice dinner. The talk with the waiter got to how many years they had been married, and we added up the total for all 4 couples. As of 2005, we had 142 years of marriage at that table! (Of course, the folks are gone now, but the 6 of us will have 100 years of marriage between us by the end of this year. 43 + 28 + 29)
My goodness. All these anniverseries. Me? I never married. Wouldn’t have been happy if In had, I was a confirmed nomad, and wouldn’t have wanted to settle down. I would never do that to a lady,. There were times when I wavered, but the road always won.
My only anniveresary is my B’day, and #80 will be here in September. It will be almost four times as many as i expected to have when I was in my early 20s.
Hit 97 today in SAvannah. Tues. I leave for my cottage in UPSTATE NY till OCT. Can’t take this heat and humidity down here. Ya’ll take care , best you can, talk with when Iget up there and get the place opened and get back on-line.
Slim said, “Be your own good person, for you do judge others by your ways,” Life is not about how much money you have, how big you house is or what kind of a car you drive. It’s about the friends you have. Both my wife and I believe that trusting in thr Lord to take care of your needs and not your wants will give you peace and enable you to handle tough times when they come along.
