Thanks for your tips, David. I logged off before you came on so I didn’t read it until now when you pointed it out. I don’t drive (dom’t forget, I’m a New Yorker), so I’ll be taking buses and trains.I’m hoping my knowledge of Turkish will help and since German is related to English, a few cognate words may help. Since I plan to go no more than 3 days,, I plan to take only carry-ons, so there will be no sharps or liquids in my bag. I’m hoping that this will free me for waiting for my luggage at the airport. My great grandmother’s maiden name was Ringelheim and everyone named “Ringelheim” is related to me. The town of Ringelheim is a suburb of Salzgitter. I wanna see what connetion, if any, that town may have to my family (I’m the “official” Ringelheim genealogist) and I wanna have a photo of me taken in front of the Ringelheim sign,
Arye – We seem to have that in common too. I’m the “official” genealogist for our branch of the family as well. The problem is finding the time for it. I want someday to return to Germany and do the genealogical research there, but after spending so much money to travel there for vacation, it’s hard to spend several days pouring over old record books when you could be out sight seeing.
If your family family is connected to Junker families, let me give you a website that you can resear ch from your computer: Leo Van Pas.
If you’re related to German Jews, you can join the Ger-SIG (Special Interest Group) of jewishGen and do your research without interfering with your sightseeing.
Good morning, VagaBonds!Well, we made it to the south side of Las Vegas, and ready to go down to get some breakfast here at the hotel. We are planning on stopping in Victorville to get a hug from Jan, and then head to San Diego to do all kinds of family stuff, and pick up more from the airport, etc.I am looking forward to cool ocean breezes…..it was 100 in Vegas yesterday…..ugh!!!
