Good morning, vagabonds. I spent yesterday reading my first Miami Herald. There was a nice article about my rabbi there = he’s known as the karate rabbi as well as the culinary rabbi as well as the rabbi who encourages charity giving.
Morning, Vagabonds. Got the Christmas decorations down from the attic and got the tree up, but had to rearrange the furniture in the living room. Today I intend to put up the lawn ornaments. I hate hanging lights on the house, so I hope I can get out of that.
Howdy, Vagabonds..It’s around 30 around here, it looks like we’er keeping our snow. Also slippery going this morning..I haven’t put lights outside in a few years, It’s usually just a tree with lights..Well I guess I’ll move along to the rest of the comics..Have fun all..ttfn
We got back about midnight Saturday night. I did manage to get to church yesterday, but just collapsed for the rest of the day. We got unpacked and most of the laundry done, but otherwise vegged out in front of the TV and/or computer.
We had a good trip. Started out with a five hour delay at the Las Vegas airport, but that was ok, because we would have had a five hour wait at the port anyway. We chose to take a red-eye to Florida so I could work on Friday morning. We sailed to Princess Cays (an enclave on the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas), St. Maartin (my personal favorite), St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands) and Grand Turk (Turks & Caicos) islands. Spent two days at sea, the first being calm smooth and boring, the second being stormy and a lot more fun. You should have seen all the folks staggering around trying to walk in rough seas. We all looked like we were drunk. The sea is very dramatic in rough weather. We had a 10 hour wait at the Ft. Lauderdale airport because that was the best flight I could find. We left Florida about 8:30 PM and arrived in Vegas at 11:00 PM. Took us an hour to find luggage and drive home.
I think I read about 5 books while we were on the ship. There was a lot of “down” time. Good thing I had my Kindle with me and fully loaded! (I am really enjoying the “Women’s Murder Club” mysteries – I finished two of those on board – “4th of July” and “5th Horseman”. I have the rest of them on the Kindle and look forward to reading them – later.)
I forgot to use my camera on most of the trip, so we bought a few post cards. The exception was Grand Turk where I got some pretty dramatic shots. I haven’t downloaded them yet, but when I do I will try to share. We did get a very nice formal portrait that we framed and will give to our son for Christmas. We haven’t done that in a long time – I think the last photo he has of us was taken about the time he graduated from HS, and he’s 36!
I like to make a journal album of trips we take, and I’ll use the postcards and photos to illustrate the memories. When we went to England & France – almost 20 years ago now, sheesh! – I kept a written journal of our trip as well as a small notebook with captions for all photos taken so I knew exactly what each photo was (an idea I got from my Mom). I put it all together into 2 big photo albums because it wouldn’t fit into one. We pull these memory albums out every once in a while to relive the experiences.
It is good to be home. It took me about 3 hours yesterday to go back and read all of the comics I missed while we were gone.
Thanksgiving on board was a bit weird. Almost none of the crew was American, while the majority of the passengers were. So they provided Thanksgiving dinner for 2500. The Canadian assistant cruise director was gleeful about celebrating her second Thanksgiving this year. They also had a beautiful menorah in the Grand Piazza on board, and held Hanukkah services for those who wished to attend. We had opted for “anytime” dining which meant we had different dinner companions each evening, so we had Thanksgiving dinner with two other very nice couples. One of the other ladies was very vocal about not having enough gravy or cranberry sauce, so our table got a big bowl of each extra. We were all grateful to her.
@JanCinLV- WOW sounds like a great trip you guys had. Amso happy for both of you. “Womens Murder Club” series are great reads, I did two during the summer and have about seven to go. I did the “5th Horseman” also, and the “9th judgement” so far, suchpage turners. Currently reading “The Postcard Killers” byJames P. & Liza Marklund, Wonderful page turner, will dropover to another WMC to continue that series.
