I never knew of any kid that got spanked with a hairbrush. My dad always used a belt (and I’m a better man for it today). I’m pretty sure the hairbrush thing is only in cartoons and comic strips.
Fortunately an alert neighbor saw what was happening through the window. Appropriate authorities were brought in. Fritzi was jailed, Nancy became a ward of the state and received several years of counseling, as well as ritalin.
In a related story, the teacher was suspended for abusive grades.

… If I’m interpreting it right, that’s a bit excessive for a bad grade. But the past is a different country, I suppose.
