Reminds me of a time when I was kid and my family had just moved west from New England. My mom asked my friends if they would like a “tonic” but they all refused. “Tonic” is the New Englander’s term for a soft drink (i.e. soda or pop). They all thought mom was offering tonic water or medicine.

If they lived in Minnesota then Aunt Fritzy would have said “hot dish” and there would have been no confusion.
