I’m skeptical that a) Nancy would overlook a candy cane at Christmas, and b) she wouldn’t make a more concerted effort to eat it now.

She was very creative back then, not her present-day counterpart.

Worked in a drugstore back in late 70’s. They tried saving their candy canes for the next year, but they turned from white & red to yellow & red. Also saving suntan lotion, that turned from white to brown in a year.

Panel 2 looks like Nancy has found a clogged pea shooter. Or she really knows nothing about how to eat a candy cane.

Shouldn’t be inedible this quickly. My mom passed away in September and the tootsie rolls in her pantry were at least a year old – and still fine. Same for M&M’s.

Wow! Now that is a lot of work to save a 1 cent candy stick!
