Is it just me or has the quality of Olivia’s writing been improving over the last month? Don’t get me wrong, I was already a fan of New Nancy, but I feel like, for me at least, I’m finding fewer strips I don’t like and enjoying the ones I do more on average.
With any artistic endeavor there’s an initial orientation phase; now she’s developed her central cast, adjusted to the constraints of syndication, found a narrative rhythm, and built up a few solid themes she can rest on. With all that under her belt I sense more confidence in her process, and more of her talent starting to show along with it. I think the dawn of Nancy by Olivia Jaimes is over and the strip has officially entered a new day: here’s hoping it’s a long and bright one.
