Next time you play hide and seek Nancy clean the black wet paint off your shoes you were standing in, or at least don’t take such tiny steps that it will mark a line to you like an arrow.
Knowing Nancy’s predilection for making the least possible effort, (and assuming that the starting point was the base of the streetlight), it was easy to deduce that Nancy would stay in the pole’s shadow, and all she had to do was to follow it.
