Weird topic today again. I am the opposite. I can easily remember good memories. Childhood friends and birthdays, dating, getting married, and hovva hovva the honeymoon. Yet I have to really concentrate to remember bad memories. Disobeying parents and teachers! Getting my first speeding ticket! That stuff seems to be on the back burner.

My, I was a lot older than her, before I had that problem. I feel for her, and she’s a girl in a comic

Is it just me, or does most Nancy strips have one of the same two basic jokes?

Somebody (sometimes Nancy herself) advises Nancy to do something pretty important or healthy, like eat less junk food or study. It seems as if Nancy’s going to do so, but in the final panel she’s ignored the advice, or used the advice to be extra lazy or gluttonous.

The other joke is playing with the comic strip medium some way.

I don’t mean this as criticism, by the way. Every great comic strip through the ages has had running gags.

I think most people remember bad memories. My childhood, if related by me now, would be about 95% trauma.

By the time Nancy got to the 4th panel, she had already forgotten the good memory she had inflicted on herself in the 3rd panel.

Maybe it evolutionary. Remembering bad things makes you stay away from them and survive to pass on your genes.
