Was Nancy’s plan to annoy Lyle into quitting movie club and rejoining the robotics club? And did it work? But she’s in the robotics club, so why would he— I need a lie down.
I’m thinking Lyle’s presence and wave show contrition. With classmates courting him it’s tough to hold stubborn on the grudge and not be won over by their overtures, goofy and annoying as they are.

I suppose the joke is that if you don’t want somebody to bother you anymore, than don’t wave to them as they walk by?

Always fun to have somebody on the other side open the door one second before you do.

In ‘Nancy: The Musical,’ just after she opens the door and sees Lyle, she serenades him with the following ditty,
“I got the only key to your heart,
That can stop you falling apart.
Try today, you’ll find this way,
Come on and give me a chance to say.
Let my love open the door.
It’s all I’m livin’ for.
Release yourself from misery,
There’s only one thing gonna set you free.
That’s my love."
