My standard response is “I do not contribute to telephone solicitors. Remove me from your calling list”. This is especially true when you find out the telephone solicitors take about 70%+ off the top as their fees.
When I look at the ridiculous junk mail and spend time dodging professional telephone annoyers, I think: what we need is a Freedom From Information Act. Why is it easier to get a restraining order against a stalker than to stop this telephonic harassment?
Over 20 years ago, I got a call that was supposed to be a State Trooper group soliciting money to buy teddy bears for kids who had been in car accidents. It sounded vaguely familiar. I asked them to mail information. Oh, we were living a short walk away from the Highway Patrol post. (They never heard of the group)… and my husband was the town’s police dispatcher.
