Pfft, this reminds me of a department head I had many years ago. A colleague came in and said that her partner (another colleague) had had a climbing accident over the weekend. He had broken his back in three places, both legs, an arm, and multiple ribs. The poor girl was just about holding it together. The boss sympathised (oh no! Poor x! How awful!) then promptly turned round and said, “so when will he be back to work?”…at a point when no-one knew if x would be paralysed or left with permanent difficulties.
