Had the same insurance for 40 years. When I was young it was a rip off. Now that I’m old and need doctors, the investment is paying off. Like any other investment, sometimes I lose. But without that investment, could I beg my friends and neighbors to pay my medical bills because I hadn’t bothered to invest in my future? Daddy taught me better than that.
I’m also from MA and what RCMinor forgot to mention is that state regulators are continually shooting down rate increase requests. We’d be paying a lot more without the state protection. Of course, the requests are probably unreasonably high since the companies know they’re going to knocked down. You don’t open with your best offer.
…not to mention the “race to the bottom” where interstate competition is allowed, and states attract business by minimizing their regulations. See: Credit Cards, Delaware. Without some controls, we’d get screwed. Heck, with controls…
If mental health counseling is what you’re looking for, it’s a lot cheaper, and probably just as effective, to buy a six pack of beer and whine at your buddies about how screwed up the world is.
Private health care is what brought us to the premier level we have seen. Bumbling government intervention has deteriorated the industry. You want proof. I have a receipt for my birth costs. $38.00 in 1938.
I do not know whether gocomics has a policy against do this, so, in my ignorance, I am posting a link for those that insist that Congress is exempt from the Health Care Reform Act of 2019. They (Members of Congress) are in the same boat as the rest of us, they gotta BUY their own health care, too!
yuggib, I never said that Congress is exempt, only that their benefits plan is rather nice. A few moments with google led to a variety of articles, including the first one I checked, which basically says that, yes, Congress has nice benefits, and that they can’t really be extended to the rest of the citizenry, since we couldn’t afford it.
Is this article plausible? Since it’s in the LA Times, I rather doubt it is from a highly conservative view, so I tend to believe its claims. Furthermore, as I said, other articles I checked also agree with the points. I stand by my comment.

If he’s only charging $25, he’s getting a large subsidy from somewhere.

RCMinor, isn’t Massachusetts the state for RomneyCare? The model for ObamaCare? Thanks for letting us all know how well it works.

@NightShade09–they don’t use it in Congress, because they can get the taxpayer to fund their own plan.
Rather ask if their plan is so affordable, why don’t they open it to the rest of us?

$25? All these years I’ve been doing it for free. I could have made some money.

Private insurance, pff! Stealing money from your neighbors is the way to go! That’s the way us incompetent people and illegal immigrants roll.
