2-3 feet from blowgun tip to target and they still miss. Well, the best part of boot camp is weeding out the dumb ones. Fatality #2: not knowing which end of the dart to pick up. #3, standing too close to #4 when #4 has the safety off of the blowgun. #4, drinking the juice from the jar, mistaking it for cola during the break. Ensign Kenny beams in shortly after, and becomes #5 when he unintentionally licks his fingers before picking up the next dart.
Figured somebody would have picked up on the references by now; Cmlbx’s comment was the the chorus from “Witch Doctor”, written by Ross Bagdasarian and recorded by him in 1958 under the name David Seville. He later wrote and released several “Alvin and the Chipmunks” songs. Guess that puts me at geezer status. I remember “Purple People Eater” from Sheb Wooley, too.

There’s no grading system at this camp — it’s all pass/fail.

hiccups would be even worse – sort of like a slo-mo auto dart gun in reverse.

@Cmlbx-Ross Bagdasarian, 1958. 53 years trying to not remember it, and you glued it back in an instant. Thanks. Alvin’s dad will be proud.
