    Prof danglais, Doctor Toon: The King’s horses were members of the cavalry, not their mounts, and the King’s men were infantry. Neither are very good at restoring the damage they cause. Humptys who hesitate are lost.

    The rhyme didn’t mention eggs, but it was supposed to be a riddle to which the answer was an egg. Doesn’t work with our modern conception of riddles, I know.
