We had a feast today for about 40 of us which was a re-creation of 10th century cooking- a famous marriage of a Viking prince to an Anglo Saxon princess. Many participated in designing and making the decor, recipes, furniture, clothing (including handmade leather shoes) and there were workshops for many of those things. One that I attended for 2 days let me make a beautiful and very comfortable pair of shoes with embroidered and beaded trim. I also made my own under and over dress and headband, but bought my veil. We had a total of 3 “meals” through the day, representing a feast before the wedding, as well as the wedding day and a breakfast the morning after- where gifts were presented. It was great fun. Other people acted just as cooks and servers at the event, so we played games in an outdoor area while they had each meal in a back room and prepared for the next one. Some people are more into cooking and don’t care about dressing up (I LOVE to dress up- and even for this event, my clothes were all silk) and pearls on my shoes ;-)
