@Jeanie and 4 cats, I am still thinking about all the info on Food Network “the Big Waste”. and opposed to the older show “Food Inc” about how the food that we normally get is being stripped of nutritional values because it is easier to make everything the same.
Too many grocery stores throw leftover bread in the dumpster and spray it with poison rather than give it to a food bank three counties away. After freezing and thawing, two-day-old bread seems quite fresh. I know because every week I carry a load from a store in Dallas to a food bank in Bonham, in the process passing at least two stores of the same chain which won’t help, and three others of that chain in other directions. They claim home office (out of state) won’t let them! It is amazing how much bread you can get in a Prius with the back seats down.
There are organizations that deal with this! Many places in town donate to our local rescue mission. There is also an organization called "nashville’s table that picks up food, day old bread, produce and such and distributes it to the needy. Find your local organizations and volunteer. We don’t have to sit and talk about how lame it is. Do something small, but do something!

@jeanie- I was thinking the same thing. Agree there is so much waste of perfectly good food that could actually save some lives…

In ’09 I spent over three months broke, unemployed, and homeless. No resources of my own, at all. I gained five pounds.
