You learned Algebra in 3rd grade. Except no one explained it as Algebra, so in 8th grade when they added the letters you were very confused. For example:
8 + _ = 18 ; _ = 10 You can use the blank for numerous DIFFERENT problems
8 + X = 18 ; X = 10 You can use the X for numerous DIFFERENT problems
SAME THING!!! Petition your child’s school to GET RID OF THE BLANK!!!
The problem with 5th Grader is, these kids just recently learned all that stuff. The adults had years to forget it. I’d like to see how much these kids remember in 20 years time.
And _ algebra is fine. It’s the oens with X’s and Y’s in it that sump people.

Be thankful for every day you don’t have to study algebra. Regular math is bad enough but algebra was created in a torture chamber.

I rather liked algebra. Took it in 8th grade from the cutest teacher in the school. Even understood it!
