@Strod (from Monday):I’m not really that into trivia. When I first posted that answer, GoComics had run a 2002 pre-Christmas strip that day in which Ruthie asks Santa for a puppy, and @Jon Hra asked if that was around the time Willie first appeared (not sure why his question has since been deleted). The strip has run in the local paper (paper edition still does, creators.com strip, but dailies in b&w) since long before GoComics, and I remembered it was much after 2002 that Willie appeared (hard to forget that last panel). A neighbor’s larger dog (you probably know its name) had been in the strip from time to time, but not Willie. So, I did a quick search of the creators.com archive to find it, and posted the answer. Then, I decided maybe I should have used the GoComics archive instead, and when I found Willie to be brown there (wasn’t shaded in the paper’s b&w strips), posted both. But thanks for the online historical details. I didn’t know creators.com had it in b&w for a while ….

Neither Ruthie’s nor grandpa’s compare to little Mimi on “Rose is Rose”.
