    The humor in this series seems a little primitive, not really up to the standards of the other features that have appeared in this space.

    In todays world whaling is looked at as bad.Back in 1906 it was a necessary industry. Most stuff used some form of whale oil, bones and such.Petroleum was new and untapped as a resource. This later made whaling obsolete.Of course this lead to a whole other set of problems.

    If you are looking for conventional jokes in this strip you won’t find many. A lot of early 20th C. humor was about non sequitur lines and deadpan reactions. Anyhow, this strip was primarily a vehicle for Feinningers draftsmanship
