Nope, not me Doc, you’ll be glad to know, I’m outta here! Lost my dog over Thanksgiving..he had more personality, humor and love than either Louie or Raymond ever will. It’s too bad some of the posters here couldn’t come over to kick him. Yesterday, it went beyond commenting on the strip, and people had to make it personal, something I never did. I will say, I feel this strip should be consigned to history, like Family Circus, Hi and Lois and Garfield..would have rather they gone out on top like Bloom County, Calvin and Hobbes and Far Side; but there is no truck with polite discourse here. So, good night and good luck. I have better things to spend my time on, and better people to spend it with. I’ll leave you with this thought, “un sot trouve toujours un autre sot qui l’admire.”

Here’s my two cents… Constructive criticism is good because it keeps the lid on “believability” for the reader. If it becomes possible for anything to happen in the fictional “reality” then it eventually leaves nothing for the reader to hold on to - like the unending plot-knots of soap operas or the no-ceiling fabulousity of Star trek: the New Generation or Star wars or other sci-fi and fantasy Sagas… I’ve been a little put off by the breaking paths of continuity since I first started reading this strip - But I believe we should let this strip live and breathe too. So far most of what occurs makes sense in a fantasy world of anachronistic swaggering Good-hearted Pirates (and Aren’t we all good-hearted pirates underneath it all?) and insightful and admirable beasties. Just don’t kill the humor…All in all Overboard is one of the main reasons I’m still coming back to Gocomics…

And my two cents - these comments aren’t part of the comic strip, so if you don’t like them or disagree with them, then the solution is simple - DON’T READ THEM! See how easy it is?

Hey, everyone. this is a comic strip meant to bring a smile to people’s faces. This is getting too heavy. Lighten up, and Brenzluv, sorry about your dog.

Thanks all for the kind comments concerning old Jake passing away. It’s nice to see a rational discourse, ‘ceptin farren. It was also good to hear Mr. Dunham’s rationale for the changes in the strip, thanks Doc. Wonder if he’s related to Jeff Dunham? At any rate, still leaving, but on my last day, wanted to thank the kind responders.

Brenzluv, my deepest sympathies over the loss of your dog. I couldn’t live without my two. yes, there’s always something else to admire. Go for it. but one last cavil - PLEASE don’t ever put this lovely strip in the same category as Hi & Lois, which is not even readable and has not been for some time.

Gweedo and some of you others, lighten up on the criticism! Again, I REITERATE, comics are for FUN. They are meant to lighten the burdens of this crazy world we are living in and bring a smile to our face or a laugh out loud!

Brenzluv: My deepest sympathies on the loss of your pet. I’ve been there and it was hard. As for my input, I only read cartoons that make me smile or laugh our loud; any other boring stuff I simply ignore on a daily basis. As is obvious, Overboard is one of the best yet, so I cannot and will not stay away from it. Sorry for any ill feelings, maybe things got a bit too much though!

LESLYNMOORE, I too only read strips that bring me a laugh or a smile. Overboard is one of the BEST I have read in a long time!

GWEEDO, thanks for the write back! We do need to keep things light, that’s why the comics are here for us, the good ones anyway, not the weird stuff that’s out there.

And BRENZLUV, don’t give up on us and Overboard! Hope to see you back soon! I had 2 WONDERFUL DOGS at the same time for 16 & 17 years. lost them within a year of each other! I still miss them terribly (and we are talking 15 years ago) and I have had other beloved pets since then. But sometimes, there’s just some pets that stand out among others, no matter how much you love the pets since then. Best wishes, Brenzluv!

Brenz: Sorry about Jake. It’s never easy.

NoFearPup: You’d hate winter, too, if you had to spend it on an un-insulated pirate ship infested with mice. :)
