Dad once took a printed tin dollhouse and covered the door, windows, and open back with hardware cloth to make a new home for our gerbils. We put their wheel in one upstairs room (his modifications included a ramp), their food dish in another, and their bedding in the downstairs living room. Once while Inga was pregnant we thought we should separate them and moved her into their original cage; Ole then took it upon himself to move their bedding into the “garage”. When we put Inga back in the house she immediately moved the bedding back into the living room!
