Oh, I see what you're staring at, buddy.. It does look kind of sad and abandoned sitting in there, doesn't it.. Is there even any room for one more under the bed, though? It doesn't matter. I have my policy.* *No tennis ball left behind.
They wear out… so you have to have spares. It seemed as if Jack couldn’t stand them to be not perfect.
If there was a thread loose he would demolish the ball trying to remove that thread.
When he was younger he used to pop them in his jaws as he returned them.
As he got a little older he seemed to get a little more control and didn’t pop them as often… but when a bit of the fur stood out more than the rest… it was curtains for that ball and it was into the “stash” for me to get a replacement.
The local tennis players hit them out of the court when they no longer bounce correctly. My dog and I would walk around, looking for feral tennis balls. I donated the box of balls to the local shelter, in his honor, after he passed.
I know it’s not considered mature to ascribe human traits to inanimate objects, but I’d far rather feel sorry for a tennis ball, and sympathize with the dog yearning for it, than be that “mature.” So thank you once again, Chip, for your kind heart. How needed it is!

my last dog would happily chase a tennis ball as long as you cared to throw it, but leave him alone with it for 5 minutes, and it would be in pieces.
