verne: RJ, we're all going to die some day. rj: what about the "Singularity" thing...when computers achieve self awareness and conquer the earth? verne: how is that going to give us eternal life? RJ: the machines will need us around forever to do their bidding-so they'll have to figure out the secret to immortality. verne: great. an immortal slave. rj: hey...I didn't say there wouldn't be a downside.

It’s always about us, isn’t it? I suspect sentient machines could not care less about humanity or our fate. They’re more likely to ignore us than enslave us. But that would be worse, wouldn’t it? “There is only one thing in life worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.” —O. Wilde
