I’m going to go full Sigmund Frued here and dismantle Avery’s thought process so all can see how it works. He lacks the creativity to find a new way of becoming “cool” so he grabs old methods and tries to follow them to the letter. When it comes to being cool through misfitness, all he can do is copy an existing misfit, since he can’t come up with his own way to be weird. In the end, he’s just a parrot in a world full of… um… something with a lot of creativity.
