I wish remember a time when school started in September. All I remember s school staring in August. To be fair when I was younger school might have started in September, but from 5th grade through 12th I remember it starting in August.
When I was growing up, the first day of school was ALWAYS the Wednesday after Labor Day (except for 1st grade; my 1st day was noted as 9/1 in my baby book). For the most part, my daughters have always started school in September, except for one year.
When I grew up in North Jersey, school started the day after Labor Day. Here in SE CT, school startsThursday the week before: two days of class, then a three-day weekend. Because of when it fell this year, there was a full week after start of school before Labor Day.
This strip is wonderful. But could you please move everything up to December? I’m not sure it is best to always be four months behind! I mean, we’ll be reading about snow here during the beginning of spring….
I grew up in North Carolina, and the only time my school year ever started in September was first grade (1969). Every year after that it was the 3rd or 4th week of August.

Public schools always start after Labor Day in Michigan; it’s the law.

Yep, September was the start of school, but on the other hand it was also the start of the new TV season (back when I cared about that).
