Starting to remind me of the future gag of the “Peanuts” gang trying to shoot a basketball into the hoop. Not to mention an early C&H strip where the boy and tiger play volleyball on a tennis court.
Note how Shermy (?) thinks first of college football. That was normal in those days; professional football existed, but it didn’t become the big thing until around the 60s. Maybe it was a question of TV contracts.

In those days, the goal post was firmly connected to the ground in two places, and it was set right at the goal line instead of ten yards back.

What strikes me is the correct grammar, feel badly. When I was a kid, someone might have corrected me if I said “feel bad”. Now it’s mainstream.
