It never ceases to amaze me how different Charlie was in the beginning.

He was intentionally bluffing her.

Hedley Lamarr: “Meeting adjourned…oh, I’m sorry, Governor, I overstepped my bounds. You say that.”

Gov. Wm J. Le Petomane: “Say what?”

Lamarr: “Meeting adjourned.”

Le Petomane: “It is?”

Lamarr: “No Governor, you say that.”

Le Petomane: “Say what?”

Lamarr: “Meeting adjourned.”

Le Petomane: “It is?”

Lamarr (handing him a ping-pong paddle): “Here Governor, play with this…”

Evidently he succeeded, as Patty vanished after a few years.

Charlie must have just seen ’Who’s On First’.
