Peanuts by Charles Schulz for January 19, 1954
Transcript:
Charlie Brown is speaking to Snoopy, who is sitting up in the begging position. He asks, "You don't expect to get anything when you sit up like that, do you?!"<BR><BR> He continues, "Get some expression! Sit up straight! That's the way!!" Snoopy sits up straighter and smiles.<BR><BR> He stops smiling as Charlie Brown tosses the bag at him, walks away, and says, "Incidentally..the candy's all gone.."<BR><BR> A dejected Snoopy sits on his haunches, not smiling with the empty bag lying in front of him.<BR><BR>
A difference between the early Charlie Brown and the classic was that the former was sometimes mean, as we see here. Certainly by 1960, his behavior in this strip would be completely out of character.
