Linus stands outside. He holds a ball in his hands. He turns and looks at Snoopy.<br> <br> Linus holds the ball out to Snoopy: "Here, Snoopy...Chase the ball..."<br> <br> Snoopy races behind him as Linus leans back to throws the ball.<br> <br> As he winds his arm behind his shoulder, Snoopy reaches forward and grabs the ball in his mouth.<br> <br> Linus throws the ball, and Snoopy along with it. Snoopy is startled: "!"<br> <br> WHAM! Snoopy lands on his back with the ball still in his mouth. Linus somersalts in the air.<br> <br> Linus sits up and stares at Snoopy, who thinks, "Whew What a blow!"<br> <br> Snoopy leans back and offers the ball to Linus. He thinks, "Here, kid." as Linus stands up and reaches for the ball.<br> <br> Linus asks, "This is retrieving?"<br> <br>

no, that’s banging Snoopy on the ground. retrieving is when the dog waits until the ball has left your hands, and then goes and gets it and brings it back to you.

Well, Linus had the ball, then Snoopy, then Linus again…so Linus did technically retrieve the ball from Snoopy. There was just no throwing or chasing involved as is normal in this sort of game.
