Peppermint Patty talks into the phone and says, "Hello, Linus? I have a problem . . . Yeah, it's me . . . Peppermint Patty . . . "

Linus and Lucy listen as Peppermint Patty says, "Now, you told me that the 'Great Pumpkin' would appear if I had a very sincere pumpkin patch . . . Now you also know that I didn't have a pumpkin patch . . ."

Peppermint Patty continues, "Well, I went out and bought ten pumpkins and tried to fake, if you'll pardon the expression, a pumpkin patch . . . Now you tell me and tell me straight . . . Am I a hypocrite?!!"

Linus covers the mouthpiece and asks, "What do I tell her?" Lucy throws her hands in the air and says, "Don't ask me . . . You're the Theologian!"

But Linus just cannot bring himself to tell his new friend—who seems to share his kindred spirit, of believing in such madness—that she is indeed a hypocrite, by making a mock pumpkin patch.
