Linus sits reading in a chair.<BR><BR> Linus says to Lucy, "When Juliet asks, 'O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou romeo?' She is not wondering where he is . . . "<BR><BR> Linus continues, "Rather she is commenting on the fact of his being named Romeo!"<BR><BR> Lucy says, "Now that I know that, what do I do?"<BR><BR>
In fact, the Shakespearean “wherefore” meant “why” rather than “where.” Juliet was asking, “Why did you have to turn out to be Romeo (one of the Montagues)?”
