Charlie Brown and the World War I Flying Ace read the comics. Roy says, "Hey Charlie Brown, come quick! They're having a canoe race!"<BR><BR> Charlie Brown says, "A Canoe race?!! C'mon, Snoopy . . . If we can win the canoe race, everyone will forget about my lousy ball playing . . ."<BR><BR> They run across the beach to the canoes. Charlie Brown continues, "We'll show 'em, Snoopy . . . we'll get in this canoe, we'll win this race and we'll be heroes!"<BR><BR> Snoopy stands lookout on the canoe while Charlie Brown paddles and says, "Actually, I had planned for you to help with the paddling."<BR><BR>
This strip and the following strip were adapted into “It Was a Short Summer, Charlie Brown”, although Shermy replaced Roy.
