Linus and Charlie Brown are standing on the front porch steps as Linus is reading from the newslpaer to Charlie Brown, "The annual sports banquet held here last night was a huge success" (BR BR) Charlie Brown and Linus are now in the living room as Linus goes on reading, " Sports celebrites from all over the nation attended.. The only athlete missing was baseball player Joe Shlabotnik." (BR BR) Linus goes on reading for the newspaer as Charlie Brown listens, "Joe apologized to reporters this morning.. He explained that he had marked the wrong date on his calendar, the wrong City and the wrong event..."(BR BR) Linus turns to Charlie Brown and says, " He's YOUR hero, Charlie Brown!" Charlie Brown stands with a frown on hise as he gives a big "SIGH" (BR BR)
Re: Panel 2-that every single athlete except Joe Shlabotnik showed up: that’s because there is NO SUCH person, by that name, in reality! Only in recent years, has it dawned on me, that the reason Joe Shlabotnik did not come to the banquet, nor was Charlie Brown ever successful at finding a bubble gum card, with Shlabotnik’s picture on it, is JUST THAT REASON—he is merely FICTIONAL, in other words.
