clip of the final episode of the Mary Tyler Moore Show..the best part starts about 8 mins into it….“It’s a Long Road to Tipperary” starts around 12 ½ mins into it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XAo6U9dD2g
It’s a long way to TipperaryIt’s a long way to goIt’s a long way to TipperaryTo the sweetest girl I knowGoodbye PiccadillyFarewell Leicester SquareIt’s a long long way to TipperaryBut my heart’s still there.
What’s usually quoted is the chorus to the song, while the verses are about an Irishman come to London to make his fortune but who misses his girl back home in County Tipperary. He writes her a letter and gets a reply that urges him to come back home or she’ll dump him for another man. The song was written in 1912 and was a favourite in British music halls. It’s association with World War I began when a reporter heard it being sung by the Irish Regiment the Connaught Rangers as they marched through Boulogne France on the way to the Front. It soon became popular throughout the British Army (which has a lot of Irishmen in it).
They were 5490 Sopwith Camel planes built. Of that I wonder how many Snoopy is responsible for crashing. It seems that everytime he go up he get shoot down. I can not remember him landing one intact not even once.

I hope Snoopy doesn’t get hurt. This doesn’t seem so imaginary anymore. Lol

Snoopy may get shot down a lot, but he never gets hurt. It’s his fantasy, after all. It’ll be a long way for him if he has to walk home. lol

“It’s A Long Way To Tipperary” was a popular WWI song that the British soldiers sang. Snoopy has sung it off and on. As a kid, we knew it.

Most WWI aircraft were lost to accidents rather than enemy action. Ground fire was the next largest cause of downings and finally air-to-air combat.
Been that way in most wars since.

OCD. The Red Barron is to Snoopy as Moby Dick was to Ahab.

Readers who don’t recognize “Tipperary” as a classic WW1 song? Sigh, I’m old!
