Transcript:
Max: Good luck in the spelling bee. I hope you win.
Phoebe: What do you think he meant by that?
Marigold: That he hopes you win?
Phoebe:It's obviously some sort of reverse-reverse-psychological triple bluff.
Unfortunately we, as a society, have become so used to looking for hidden meaning and innuendo that we are unable to accept anything at face value. The age of cynicism seems to be rapidly decreasing in proportion to the exposure of the young to the medium of the internet.
What it actually means is “I owe the Russian mafia a surprisingly enormous amount of money for a grade-schooler, and they’re giving me one last chance: double or nothing, on you winning this Bee. So FOR THE LOVE OF JEBUS DON’T LET ME DOWN, PHOEBE!”
