So, I just came up with a crazy theory as to why this story is so long and convoluted.
I remember when the show was at production at Nickelodeon, Dana said it was going to be a movie first and then a series, though she didn’t know much about it other than that, or even if it was going to be 2D or 3D-animated.
Now, take this theory with a grain of salt, especially since Dana had so little involvement with it…but what if after Nick cancelled the project, Dana decided to get ahold of the pilot movie screenplay and adapt it into a strip? (I imagine the movie would start out with Phoebe meeting Marigold before they get the letter that sends them on a long and crazy journey.)
