Different cultures, different standards…in our society, a pregnant early-teen is a child, unable to be either a functional adult or a parent. In other times and places where they married as young as 13 (okay, still “yikes”), they were young adults: they were expected to function as young adults, and they pretty much did.
Maybe we’re the odd ducks, allowing our young ones to remain infantile for so long. Here’s a thought: maybe we have “juvenile delinquents” only because we allow them to be juveniles when they should have been required to be responsible adults long since.
