My wife and I agreed many, many years ago that it was foolish to buy each other gifts for Xmas and B-days because when we wanted something we would normally just go and buy it. We felt that our relationship was not built on giving/receiving gifts. I know that doesn’t work for everyone but we got along just fine for 48 years not getting and giving any gifts.
