Bob Valentine: There may be some, but most of those just reaching voting age, donât complain, but have their face buried in a video screen as addicted as any in an opium den a century ago. In the â60s, I was talking to a learned rabbi. He said there wouldnât be an armed uprising in the US as long as the populace has beer and TV. I asked if beer and TV was the true opiate of the people. He gave me a look that asked, âwhy did you have to word it that way?â; but he agreed. The only difference today is that we have more electronic gizmos to distract.
