then there was the ‘top value’ stamps….in my state, Krogers sold the top value (yellow) stamps and standard grocery sold s&h green stamps…..gad, forgot all about them! I remember it took a LOT to get even the most inexpensive item….like a whole book to get a single spoon or some such
i recall when you went to the movies on a certain nite you would get a dish (part of a full set)i remember the dinner plate was pink and black. ford also made a pink and black car.really great days.
Plaid Stamps, here in the northeast. I remember how thrilled I was when given a book or two of my own to ‘spend’ ! I looked through that (magic to me!) catalog for hours, much as folks in lonely rural areas used to peruse the amazing Sears catalog when it first appeared.
arceedee I remember plaid stamps (A & P) grocery stores! And S & H Green stamps!
I actually still have a couple of filled plaid stamp books. Found them in a drawer about 2 years ago (tells how often I clean out that particular drawer!). Decided to hang onto them for old times sake, or collectors value LOL!
Rembember when filling stations used to give out really nice anchor hocking glasses and dishes? For that maatter, remember when filling stations ACTUALLY gave you service?!
hello, Drystyha - nice to be home again, and hope your Easter holiday went beautifully! Yes, I remember when filling stations provided service so mother and grandma didn’t have to soil their white gloves, and banks were so pleased to have your small account that they gave you a toaster! We also got nice glass and dish collections from local markets - heck, even packed in laundry soap cartons! Hope you got my message in yesterday’s Pluggers (re: camping), and ‘see’ you soon :-)
Mom used to give us boys a book of stamps to redeem or ourselves for our birthday. It was a lot of fun to go through the catalog to decide what I wanted. We enjoyed the privaledge of getting to stick the Green Stamps and Top Value stamps in the books too.

In the 60’s it was trading stamps. Today it’s rebates.

Anybody here remember the “Blue Chip” stamps? My folks collected those too. Got some neat stuff with ‘em.
