Actually, over half of the states (28) have a town or city by the name of Mount Vernon. In fact there are seven in Tennessee. There are also dozens of subdivisions with Mount Vernon in their name.
Only Tink: I agree with you there. From the things I’ve seen and heard lately, it’s pretty scary what schools aren’t teaching kids these days … history and geography seem to be two of the biggest subjects I know of.
Did you know they’re not even bothering to teach cursive writing in schools anymore??? Unbelievable! I remember as a child seeing letters and words written in cursive and I couldn’t wait to learn how to read and write it too!!!!!

Complain to the people who write The Test: history and geography aren’t on it.
Or don’t, because if they start adding more tests, there won’t be any time for instruction.

Two things:
See what I said above re: what is and isn’t on The Test.
My school certainly does teach cursive writing. Students can then choose which they want to use when they need to write things by hand (which is going by the wayside as the use of technology, even in schools, increases.)
